I prefer a beer bottle cap, or more accurately what goes under one of those but for the purpose of the league discussion I'd like some kind of cap. For some reason I want to check when the Yankees play next all of a sudden.

We need some kind of control on the issue. A soft cap allows the teams who can afford the luxury tax to still spend over the limit but at a cost. It might help keep teams from going crazy in the free agent market.

I like a soft cap but wouldn't be opposed to hard cap either. I think having no cap at all is begging for a can of worms to be opened at some point.

I would like no cap. I'd like, over time, for teams to become larger market and smaller market teams and to spend accordingly.

I'm for the soft-cap. High market teams still get an advantage (being able to spend over the cap if they can afford it and the tax), but it could limit spending. Hard cap works too...

If we do no cap or a soft cap I think we need a nice formula as to how we will come to budgets.

I am also not sure if I like the idea of franchises market being determined by the AI. Why not standard Size and go from there. Why should anyone get a random advantage over anyone else.

If no cap use a formula for budget and just have no cash max or something. Success= more budget in essence.

Just thinking out loud. Personally I love a hard cap with said budgetted formula. But I still think equal footing for size is a must. Who wants to be saddled with small market team with no cap. I don't want to run the MArlins

Amen, brotha. there should be at least a soft cap, but also we need to start market sizes on an even playing field. definitely. then, it's your own damn fault if you become the marlins.

I always thought most leagues started with even market sizes anyhow. I guess I figured that was just implied.

If not, then yeah, we definitely need to adjust that after the draft so everyone starts on the same level.

What happens from that point is up to the GM to take care of.

Obviously there will be some type of cap though, right? the vote is 10-4 by my count. the only question is... what kind??? maybe start a new poll with only 2 choices?

Hard cap with letting the game determine market size and fan interest on its own. Allow a larger cash max and smaller market teams can save up with low payrol years and spend their reserves later on for a big push. This is the best way to go. You have to be careful not to allow too mich imbalance or there could be a revolving door for the small market/low revenue clubs. A hard cap is the best way to limit the big revenue teams. Life is not fair but this is a game not life. We should find a way to keep the playing field somewhat level.
